2024 Grace Hopper Award Recipient

We're proud to announce our 2024 Grace Hopper Awardee: Dorothy (Dottie) Metcalf-Lindenburger!

Dorothy (Dottie) Metcalf-Lindenburger, a retired NASA astronaut, educator, and geologist, hails from Colorado's Front Range and studied at Whitman College. A former track and cross-country athlete, she earned her B.A. in Geology. She taught earth science and astronomy for five years at Hudson’s Bay High School, coaching cross-country and participating in Science Olympiad.

Selected by NASA in 2004, she flew as a mission specialist on the STS-131 crew, contributing as a robotic arm operator and coordinator for spacewalks during a fifteen-day International Space Station resupply mission. She later commanded NEEMO 16, simulating asteroid conditions underwater. Retiring from NASA in 2014, she completed an M.S. in applied geology, worked as a geologist, and founded Dottie ML, LLC. Now, a professional speaker and STEAM education advocate, she volunteers with Challenger Learning Center and the Museum of Flight.
