The jazz-inflected Wellington reggae band Trinity Roots tell their story in Sarah Hunter's music-filled 2010 documentary. Released during a hiatus in the band and just as it was re-forming, the film is filled with humour and generous footage of rehearsals, recording sessions and performances, along with friendly testimony from critics, collaborators and their Mums.
Lead singer/guitarist Warren Maxwell, Rio Hunuki-Hemopo and Riki Gooch formed Trinity Roots in the early 90s.
"Aotearoa has been swept up in the music of TrinityRoots – a boil-up of ingredients that seems to embody the very essence of our home, land and sea. The influences that the group bring together join the dots between head-nodding reggae, slow-burning funk and jazz adventurism to form undeniably indigenous waiata, unconstrained by genre boxes." – www.trinityroots.co.nz
