"Give it a Whirl" is a six-part series tracing the evolution of New Zealand’s popular music tells its rock ‘n roll stories, from the fledgling sounds of the 1950s to today’s international music acts. Presents an engaging mix of interviews, news archive and music clips to tell the stories of the bands, songwriters and entrepreneurs and the role they played in creating the soundtrack to New Zealanders’ lives over the past 45 years.

Beatlemania reaches New Zealand. Rock 'n roll is nearly ten years old and ready primed to supply the soundtrack to the swinging sixties. TV pop show "C’Mon" becomes a star-making machine with a raft of pop contenders playing to the nation’s lounge rooms. Mr Lee Grant, Sandy Edmonds & Allison Durbin become household names. But the lure of big time success is attracting a new crop of tougher-sounding acts that are cutting it on the live music scene. Rock bands Larry’s Rebels, Fourmyula and the La De Das crack it in our nightclubs and bars.
