"Rising from the Ashes" is the story of Rwanda’s first national cycling team and their bid to make history and represent their country at the 2012 Olympics. The team is composed of young people left orphaned and traumatised by the Rwandan genocide a decade earlier.

Competing in a white man's sport, reserved for the privileged, the rag tag group of cyclists coached by American Jock Boyer, are transformed into a powerful symbol of hope for a country recovering from one of the world's most devastating genocides.

Screens with the short film "Mama Agatha" (Fadi Hindash, Netherlands, 2015, 16 min).

Once a week, a group of migrant and refugee women in Amsterdam learn how to ride a bicycle. Inspiring them to let go of the fear and get behind the wheels is Mama Agatha. Mama Agatha, a 59-year-old Ghanaian woman with the spirit of a 20-year-old, runs bicycle classes in the colorful Southeast district with a large population of people from Africa and the Middle East. With the help of her bicycle training assistants, Mama Agatha (Agartha Frimpong) has taught nearly 1000 women to find their way into a new society – on two wheels.

Cycle to the movies and lock your bike indoors - we have stands to rest your two-tyred transport.
