It’s all about the kids at the Day at the Beach 5K in Kennebunk on Sunday.
The race benefits the Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association, which provides recreational and enrichment programming for local children. The association has been around for more than 100 years and currently provides programs to more than 700 children.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the KBIA’s scholarship fund. They offer scholarships to local children who need financial assistance, as well as to graduating high school seniors who show excellence in academics and athletics.
The Day at the Beach 5K also benefits Kids Free to Grow, the Child Abuse Prevention Council for York County. They provide abuse prevention and educational programs for children in local schools. They reach more than 7,000 students in across York County each year.
The Day at the Beach 5K kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Sunday with a kids fun run, followed by the 5K road race at 9 a.m. The race starts and ends at Lords Point on Mother Beach in Kennebunk.
