When disaster strikes, ShelterBox Response Teams play a crucial role in helping vulnerable families recover.
Following a natural disaster or conflict, our Response Team Volunteers leave their own families to travel around the world and deliver shelter, tools and other essential items to the families who need them most.
The conditions can be very challenging. It can be physically and mentally demanding. Becoming a response team member is a huge responsibility, but it can also be incredibly rewarding.
What we do
Our Response Team drop everything at a moment’s notice to deliver aid to families around the world.
But how do we do this? What happens behind the scenes to make sure we’re ready when a disaster happens?
In this video our volunteers answer that question. It’s not an easy job, but we’ll do whatever it takes to help the people who need us the most.

Richard's story from Kenya
In May 2018, torrential rains and devastating floods uprooted hundreds of thousands of people across East Africa.
Kenya was one of the worst affected countries, with the floods displacing over 290,000 people, killing at least 100 civilians and washing away entire villages.
Gold Coast-based ShelterBox Response Team volunteer, Richard Brammall, was part of the third team to enter Kenya. Here he played an instrumental part in accessing the situation and working together with the local Red Cross to understand how and where our aid would be most beneficial.
Jeff's Story from the Caribbean
Flying in to Dominica it was clear the island had been devastated.
Australian ShelterBox Response Team Member, Jeff Barnard, from Valla Beach, New South Wales was deployed to Dominica in 2017 after Hurricane Maria tore its way through the Caribbean island.
Read on to learn how Jeff and his team were able to locate communities in need, establish the most desperate assistance required, and work alongside the local community to provide valuable shelter and aid.
